Shanghai pharma made an investment of RMB 70 million, and the e-commerce management team made an investment of RMB 30 million, in the new company.

At this critical point of time the online sales of prescription drugs are about to be liberalized, Shanghai Pharma gets into pharmaceutical cloud business with prescription drug O2O as the breakthrough point, which can be deemed to be one of the strategically important steps taken by the Company.

The core of Shanghai Pharma’s e-commerce model is to build such three platforms as “electronic prescription”, “drug data” and “patient data” and provide online solutions; to integrate its abundant offline retail resources and build three-tiers of retail networks; to provide patients with professional, safe and convenient prescription drug purchases and comprehensive long-term health management services, thus realizing service and trade integration, seamless linkage of hospital prescriptions, whole-process interactions between doctors and patients and online-offline integration.

At present, the mainstream pharmaceutical e-commerce models in China are divided into two categories: trade and service. The trade-oriented pharmaceutical e-commerce companies are divided into platform-based e-commerce companies and brick-and-mortar e-commerce companies relying on offline business. According to industry insiders, the e-commerce and retail channels should be optimized on the basis of the existing b-business, so as to build a pharmaceutical ecological chain system that gets through the drug end-to-end whole-process system.

The e-commerce company of Shanghai Pharma will build three data platforms online, so as to realize the whole-process service functions ranging from prescription diversion, drug purchase, health management and subsequent visit appointment etc. The “electronic prescription” platform is connected to the HIS or a self-built prescription system of out-of-pocket drugs; the “drug data” platform is connected to and manages the drug stock and distribution information in the retail stores run by Shanghai Pharma and its partners, so as to ensure rapid and accurate drug distribution. The “patient data” platform keeps tracking the health big data of patients, including visit, drug administration and diagnosis. Meanwhile, efforts will be made to build three tiers of retail networks offline, which include the professional pharmacies (DTP) run by Shanghai Pharma, the pharmacies in collaboration with, or delegated to, hospitals as well as brick-and-mortar pharmacies.

In comparison with the existing prescription drug e-commerce model, Shanghai Pharma has the following offline advantages: Firstly it has a vast network of offline stores; secondly it has rich experience in hospital prescription construction and connection to the HIS etc. thanks to the implementation of service outsourcing projects among the hospital supply chain, and thirdly its DTP business holds a leading position in the area of expensive out-of-pocket drugs.

The new e-commerce company of Shanghai Pharma also seeks reference from the relevant Internet models and renders diversified health services, such as patient education, drug donation and long-term disease management, to patients, so as to further improve patient loyalty and patient experience. Meanwhile, the company will rely on big data and disease management to render health management services to hospitals and doctors.

Moreover, it's worth noting that the e-commerce company of Shanghai Pharma has adopted such arrangements as management shareholding and mixed ownership. The management team of the new e-commerce company is led by Ji Jun, current General Manager of SPH Zhongxie Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. The team has rich experience in business operation and product promotion. Supported by the parent company’s abundant pharmaceutical resources and relying on the practical business model and the market-oriented incentive mechanism of the management, the Company enjoys huge room for imagination in terms of performance growth as well as more open equity structure and cooperation model in the future.
